Crooks Like Us.

I got this book today – and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into it. The photos come from the forensic photography archive in Sydney and depict people that were arrested for various crimes in the 1920s. The author, Peter Doyle, has collected their stories along with the portraits, and just flicking through the book earlier I was spellbound.

To borrow a few words from the back cover: “In their richness, the pictures and the text, set against the banality of the circumstances, declare that everyone is interesting and even beautiful, and that every story is worth telling.”
