Amongst Giants.

I like animated music videos. Below is a moving and beautiful one I stumbled across today.

When I visited the website of the guys resposible for the film I noticed a quote by scientist Max F Perrutz that spoke to me.
I don’t know very much about the science community, but I do know something about living within the arts; and the opportunities for non-planned creative ideas to spontaneously happen has certainly been curtailed of late – and at alarming speed.

I believe that we as a society must allow for Ars gratia artis – Art for art’s sake
(to borrow MGM’s motto)  – or we will find ourselves in a very depressing place.

Anyway, here’s the quote and the video:

” … creativity in science, as in the arts cannot be organized. It arises spontaneously from individual talent.

Well – run laboratories can foster it, but hierarchical organization, inflexible, bureaucratic rules, and mountains of futile paperwork can kill it.

Discoveries cannot be planed; they pop up … in unexpected corners. ”
